Throughout the years, psychologists have had the opportunity to study many different aspects of the adolescent life. The movie Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, is a movie about two teens from the 50’s. Danny Zuko who is a greaser, and Sandy Dee who is a normal girl from Australia, met at the beach and had a lovely summer together. Once the summer was over, it was time to go back to their regular lives, until Sandy was forced to move to America, and attend Rydell High School, which so happens to be the high school that Danny attended. This fantastic movie gives a great view on the many different aspects and theories that psychologists have formed thus far in their research. The main point in the movie is the importance and power of friendship. Friendship changes the entire perspective on the adolescent life, making the teen happier and more bound towards success, for the most part. Yet, with friendship comes a few cons. At some point, every adolescent is burdened with the act of peer pressure. Sandy gave in to drinking, smoking, and getting her ears pierced. Sandy was not the only one giving in to peer pressure though. Danny went from super sweet, to pretending to be a cool guy, just because of the fact that his friends were around, and later had to go back and apologize. Peer pressure rules the adolescent world just as much now, as it did back in the 50’s. After peer pressure, comes relational aggression. This is a true problem, along with peer pressure and other issues, with adolescents today. During the movie, the teens showed quite a few examples of relational aggression. The main one being the gossip. When the T-Birds and the Pink Ladies went to the drive in movie, a rumor was spread that Riz was pregnant. This showed that adolescents do not take this type of gossip, or any other type of aggression, serious. Another type of relational aggression is vocal. The T-Birds, and occasionally the Pink Ladies, were known for their witty, rude remarks. Any time that something was asked or stated in their direction, they had a sarcastic
