There is a lot of book, articles and reading in circulation around the world today but the book that has the most importance to me is Toughness by Jay Bilas. This book means a lot to me because it talks about the tough things you need to do to be a great basketball player not only the physical things but also the mental. A few of the key aspects that are talked about in this books is how to be a great defender, how to be a great offensive player and most importantly how to be an excellent teammate. Every great basketball team needs to be able to score and put points up on the board, Jay Bilas writes, "Tough players don’t get fouled, they get fouled and complete the play (Bilas Par 27). This is emphasizing that great offensive players don’t look for the referee to call the foul, but instead look to finish the play first. This book stats that communication is the key to a great defense, if you’re not talking on D your not play D. if your looking to become a better defender on the court Toughness gives a few key points to focus on Jump to the ball, Don’t get Screened, Talk on Defense and Take Charges to just name a few. With just these few aspects that I listed here would make you a great defender and better basketball payer and great teammate. When playing on any organized basketball team you’re at least going to have 11 teammates. Being a great teammate is very important to me as a player and when I saw this subject in this book it but a big smile on my face. To be a great teammate means you’re willing to put your body on the line for the betterment of your team.
