The 18th century posed huge milestones for the British Empire, Great Britian was formed in 1707 after Scotland and England united. The expansion of the British Empire was by far a substantial leap during these times. Great Britian dominated commercially and through the overwhelming presence of their military. The talk amongst the people in regards to how British America expanded so rapidly, become commonplace throughout. Some cited that the English Civil War, others said it was more plausible through the issue of royal control, and others talked of financial concerns.
The English Civil War arose in 1649 when Oliver Cromwell set out ; with his convoy of subversive radicals following on his heels; to execute the English King, Charles I. This particular instense began a war that lasted over a decade. The thoughts behind ridding the British Americans of the king, was to create a commonwealth government. Cromwell died in 1658, and this left the revolutionists without formation of leadership. The commonwealth dissolved due to the disorder from lack of such leadership.

Within this time frame the connection between the American colonies and Great Britain became stronger. The English Civil War came to a close finally, and the New Endgland colonies (Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massechusetts), became a huge part in bringing forth a bigger force within North America. The Middle Colonies were made up of New Jersey, New York, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The Southern Colonies joined together the states of Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland.
