Joe Gargery in the book “Great Expectations” is a very empathetic character. Even though he suffered a lot in his childhood, he still manages to remain positive. He is loyal to people he cares about. He is a reliable and honest character that doesn’t fear the idea of showing his toughness as well as his emotional side. The author does a very good job of characterization by giving examples and details of Joe’s actions and feelings.
