In, Redbeard’s Treasure, a children story, Pedro Pablo Sacristán shows that greed and always wanting more can end up having consequences that you cant fix. Pedro Pablo Sacristán supports his claim through his story where “Redbeard”, an immensely rich pirate, hears about a treasure ship with more gold and steals it for entertainment; the weight of the gold is so much it sinks the ship taking the captain down with it. His purpose is to teach the important life lesson of greed, how it can affect your life, and why you should avoid it. I decided on this question originally because I wanted to challenge the no humor policy (I have since learned that this is normal among classes). Once I started researching it however, I found that it was a very interesting question that fit to my own life very well. I think it is the most important question because it can shine light to another question we don’t usually think about, “do I need more?” this question plays a gigantic part in society (stereotypically in America) and is unconsciously answered daily by most people. We often go through life taking more and more trying to get to “the top” but few stop and think about ifs its necessary. This question is the key to happiness, and I believe that happiness is the most important thing to achieve in life. How is this question the key to happiness you ask? When you answer if you need more and find that you don’t you will have satisfaction in your life and have less stress, unlike this essay. Think of all your childhood movies, I bet you can think of at least one of them that utilized the moral of greed.
