Greed causes many of us to want things that we do not necessarily need. In Guy de Maupassat’s short story “The Necklace”, the main characters life was driven by greed. “Feeling that all attributes of a gracious life, every luxury, should have been hers” (536). This Passage clearly says that she felt like she deserved more, and that all should’ve belonged to her. Because of her greed she ended up wasting away 10 years of her life. In the story it often describes her day dreaming of her fantasy life. “She dreamt of thick carpeted reception rooms with oriental hangings” (536). In the passage she is fantasizing what life would be like if she had all the things she wanted. In the end, her greed ultimately drove her into years of misery, drowning
