All over the world different cultures have their version how the earth was formed, why natural disasters occur , and their own gods and goddesses. Though everywhere in the world has different myths they believe in, there are two mythologies that most people have heard of, Greek mythology and Roman mythology. Though these mythology are similar there are many differences between the two.
The Beginnings
Not much is known about the beginnings of these mythologies, but what we do know is that both came about to show us the way the human race thought and felt during these time periods. Historians are unsure of when Greek mythology came about, but they do know it is recorded in Homer’s Illiad which was distributed about 700 years before the Roman civilization was created. The origin of the Greek myths are not known, whether Homer created the myths or was just simply the one to write them down, historians are not sure. Both offer meals to where the gods lived, their temples, or to the graves of family members who died. If a family needs the help of a certain god, they would draw the symbol of the god or goddess in the hall of their house. Though the Romans borrowed their gods from the Greeks the nature of the gods are different in each mythology. Human personality traits such as love, honor, hatred, dignity, as well as their roles in life determined by what they are god of in Greek mythology. While the Roman god were named after objects rather than human personality traits, they did not have a physical appearance, it was up to the reader’s imagination to determine how they looked.
