The Greek Parthenon has served as a reminder of the many trials and triumphs of Greek history. The Parthenon is a building of many different uses including a church, a mosque, and a temple for the goddess Athena. Since this monument was important it was treated with care.
In 447 B.C. , the great sculptors Ictinus and Callicrates began building the parthenon. 15 years later it was finished in 432 B.C. The Parthenon is located on the sacred hill called the Acropolis in Athens. They used white marble from Mount Pentelicus to make this monument. Outside the monument on all sides are rows and rows of columns. Inside the Parthenon there is a forty foot tall statue of the goddess Athena made from gold and ivory.
