Greg Mortenson's Three Cups of Tea demonstrated many conflict types. It showed his struggle through problems such as Person vs. Nature, Person vs. Person, Person vs. Self, and Person vs. Society . Jon Krakauer's Three Cups of Deceit brought even more conflicts Mortenson's way as the truth was reviled about his Three Cups of Tea. What were these problems, and how did they affect Mortenson? In Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Relin, we learn about Greg Mortenson's life work of building schools for the CAI and also how this all started. In Three Cups of Deceit by Jon Krakauer, we learn about how most of the conflicts in Three Cups of Tea, were made up, resulting in more conflicts for Greg Mortenson, his family, and co author. The first conflict we come across in the story is Greg Mortenson, the person, climbing K2, nature. He never makes it to the top however due to his conditions on the mountain. This is an example of Person vs. Nature because Greg Mortenson has to stop climbing K2 because of nature. This leads to the second conflict, Person vs. Society. Self conflicts didn't just effect Mortenson, but it effected his co author David Relin, and his daughter Amira Mortenson. David Relin was diagnosed with depression and he took his own life in November of 2012. Jon Krakauer Three Cups of Deceit came out in 2011. The reason for his depression very likely could have been because people learned the truth of his and Mortenson's book. Amira Mortenson, Greg Mortenson's daughter, also had a similar case, but luckily she did not succeed. Greg Mortenson also became depressed after Relin's death, and he almost died of heart failure. These would be Person vs. Self because they practiced unhealthy habits and some of them hurt
