In the epic of beowulf , Grendel is presented as a monster , coward and an insensitive character, therefore he terrified the Dantes. Grendel was big and had the strength of many, but he was a coward because he only attacks at night when the guards are sleeping. Grendel was portrayed as insensible to pain, meaning he can't feel pain and doesn't know he is affecting others because he was only taught evil.
