Grendel's 'The Traits Of Leo In Beowulf'

The traits of Leo are displayed in Chapter 5 through the characteristics of the dragon. While having a conversation with the dragon, Grendel finds out about being important when the dragon explains that he “drive[s] them to poetry, science, religion, all that makes them what they are…” (62). When Grendel hears this, he feels a sense of honor for the human reliance on him. Honorable is a very distinct quality of the zodiac sign, Leo. With human’s reliance on him, Grendel feels a great deal of respect because he’s the one for their existence. In the beginning of the chapter, it makes a reference to Leo from its animal, the lion which is represented by the dragon saying that, “no use of a growl, a whoop, a roar, in the presence of that beast”
