According to the Institute of Medicine, “Nurses are the largest group of health care professionals providing direct patient care in hospitals, and the quality of care for hospital patients is strongly linked to the performance of nursing staff.” However, popular media today reflects just the opposite.Nowadays things are improving, times are changing. This includes health care and its providers. I say this because in movies or tv shows like Grey's Anatomy shows us such. Nurses are very unappreciated or considered underdogs because they don’t have the years of education as a medical doctor does. A doctor's job is to ask what's wrong and then try and figure what course of treatment to go on then and forth but a nurse's job is to do so much more. Now nurses can do so much more and further their education, so even they can write prescriptions. With that being said if we had the comfort that a nurse gives us with the education and qualifications of a doctor, then what will we need doctors for in the future? There are many different kinds of nurses such as : Licensed Practical Nurse(one year degree), Registered Nurse(four year degree), Nurse Practitioner ( graduate degree),an advanced nurse and more. With a RN degree, you can do pretty much anything you put your mind to as far as specializing. You can be anything from a regular floor nurse to a forensic nurse or traveling the world and working in different spots. There are also different advanced specialty nurses such as: Nurse Midwives, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Certified Nurse Anesthetist and a regular Nurse Practitioner.
