The ever growing TV drama Grey's Anatomy is about more than just doctors, It's about everyday life. There are a countless number of scenarios throughout the series that resemble what happens on a daily basis in a hospital setting, and what doctors and nurses see on a day to day basis. Grey's Anatomy is so realistic because of the hospital environment it's filming techniques and the surgeries that are performed. Grey's Anatomy is aimed towards a younger generation, especially students that are considering the medical field, or are going into the medical field. Much of the equipment used such as the MRI & X-Ray machines as well as the surgical equipment is real. In return this helps the surgical procedures appear more realistic to the audience. Another technique that is used in filming is that the cast uses Bovine organs, which are cow organs to operate on. They also use pig valves to simulate real heart valves. In season 6 episode 11 "Blink", Christina yang can be observed inserting a pig valve into a patient who is in need of a new heart valve. Using organs from animals makes Grey's Anatomy appear extremely realistic, like the doctors are operating on real human beings. Another surgery that the doctors performed is the separation of conjoined twins. In Season 8, episode 11 "This magic moment" the doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital prepare to separate the conjoined twins. The surgery took a total of 18 hours. The separation of conjoined twins is a surgical procedure that in real life is done very similar to the way it was portrayed on the show. Without techniques like the ones listed above, The popular medical drama would not be as successful and genuine as it is
