On Friday, the Supreme Court decided to take on a case in Virginia of transgender student, Gavin Grimm, fighting against their school for the right to use the bathroom aligned with their gender identity. Grimm won his case in lower court, however the school board chose to appeal the decision, which was then taken up by the Supreme Court. Grimm, who has already transitioned and had a legal name change, though his birth certificate still designates him as female, had reportedly been allowed to use the male restrooms at his school previously, but because of complaints from the community and certain religious groups had been told by the school that he could no longer use the boys’ restroom and was instead given the option of using separate unisex
