When I first thought about writing my second essay, I was able to choose the second question to be my essay's prompt since corruption is one of the most troubling problems in my country. Yet, ironically, corruption is one of the loopholes that allows poor people to get around the system. While reading the book, I was able to relate to all the corrupt practices that people benefited from. I wanted to prove that even though corruption trapped Annawadians in many situations, it is definitely the best solution to survive in the slums. I took many examples from the book that can present the governmental corruption in education, politics, and welfare to demonstrate how slum-dwellers use corruption to get out of poverty.

While writing the essay, I referred to the notes from previous essays to help me in organizing my thoughts. I think that my thesis is strong and so is my topic

A clear example is my homeland, Lebanon where corruption is so rampant, the economy comes to a halt and our political system breaks down, allowing extremist groups to thrive. However, corruption plays a huge role in helping people to thrive and survive in such corrupt societies. In the book "Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity" written by Katherine Boo, the author tells the story of citizens who sought to survive in the slums. Despite the fact that corruption in the government initially trapped the Annawadians and endowed the cycle of poverty, many impoverished citizens found in the illegal practices a solution for their daily challenges.
