In lois Lowry’s, The Giver is a science fiction book about a town where everything is very simple. One theme in this novel is growing up. Many times in the novel, the author mentions something about becoming more mature. For example, at every age a child gets a new item to show them how to become more independent. Then when they are twelve, they learn how to make new friends and become more social. Lastly, when they have grown old they have a very well cared for life and ‘release’ where they don’t have to worry about anything. Comparable to real life, these characters have many milestones they meet the older they get.
