In the chapter Guardian Angel in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Jean-Dominique introduced us to his speech therapist named Sandrina. This is the first time he gives us a name for anyone at the hospital. He would normally call them the white coats, Chef, or the Coroner. He calls them ‘white coats’ because they do not care for his name, they want to keep him alive, and treat him. In the end of the day, he does not go to bother learning their names as well. But Sandria is different. She tries to meets with him twice a day and to see if he is okay. Jean feels so most thankful for the work Sadrina has done. She is his favorite person in the whole hospital. She is the one that created a code for Jean to connect with the world. She created a method of spelling out the alphabet, by moving his left eye. Also, she is training him to spoke again. “Speech therapy is an art that deserves to be more widely known.” Jean appearance the help of Sadrina, so much to keep his sanity, it is remarkable. The reason the chapter is called the Guardian Angel because Sandrian is the angle. She helped him to talk to his kids, father and Florence. If he did not have the help of Sadrina he loses his mind, and this book would have never have been made. “I take advantage of Sandrine’s presence to be in touch with ones to intercept and catch passing fragments of life the way you catch a butterfly” …show more content…
At this moments in the book he calls it flying like a butterfly. Whenever Jean is happy or a good moment in the book. We think of a butterfly they are free to fly wherever they feel too. He is saying that his mind is a butterfly being free, and exploring different thoughts. He feels on top when he can talk to his family and other people in the hospital. The Butterfly is flying moving up to the sky. Sadly the book, has many up and downs of emotions, like the butterfly flight
