According to my mother, my first animal interest was ladybugs, but what I remember well was my sister and I’s obsession with woodlice. These shy creatures fascinated me so much that every time I came across one I had to pick it up. Eventually my love of reading came into play with my love of learning about life and I absorbed books upon books about animals from fiction and life. When I was younger, I used my dedication of reading to show my parents that I was ready to take care of guinea pigs by reading every single book I could on rodents in my elementary school. Surprisingly, it worked and for six years I learned about guinea pigs from first hand experience. In elementary school, my mother and I would watch this show called “Inside Nature’s Giants” and watching the dissection of these massive creatures was fascinating as they explained why the animals evolved the way they did. The only episode I actually remember watching was about the sperm whale, but it’s stuck with me since. The majestic animal was beached and had died, but to be able to watch a dissection of a whale is something I won’t forget. Even though I haven’t seen the show since I was young, watching animal documentaries has been one of my favourite topics to
