Gum Disease Treatment
Gum disease is a common affliction that can affect anyone, regardless of age. At Aesthetic Dental Center, we are dedicated to helping our patients maintain healthy, happy smiles — this means combating cases of gum disease as they arise. What is gum disease?
Gum disease is an infection of the gum tissue due to a buildup of bacteria in the mouth. Many people are affected by some form of gum disease at some point in their lives — about 80 percent of Americans, actually. The buildup of bacteria is usually caused by improper …show more content…
Fortunately, treating mild to moderate cases of gum disease is fairly simple. If your gum disease is caught in the very early stages, we may be able to clear it up with a simple routine dental cleaning. If the case is a little more advanced, we can use deep cleaning procedures call scaling and root planing. These procedures are designed to remove all of the buildup from underneath your gums and smooth the tooth root so the gum is better able to reattach.
Most of the time, we can treat your gum disease right here in our office. Very advanced cases, however, may require specialized care. We will be happy to examine your situation and help you find the right solution to meet your needs.
What will happen if gum disease goes untreated?
If you don’t seek treatment for your gum disease, a few things can happen:
Your gum disease will progress. Once bacteria and plaque have built up to a certain level, it takes professional cleaning to get rid of it. No amount of brushing and flossing can remove the buildup from underneath your gums.
Your jawbone structure will begin to deteriorate. This can eventually lead to loose teeth. Your teeth may eventually fall …show more content…
