Thousands of lives are lost every day as a result of firearms, according to a news article from “The New Yorker” a total of 5,740 American citizens lost their life due to a firearm between 2008 and 2009 (Gopnik1). The second amendment was added to our constitution so that we are able to protect ourselves and our loved ones, not take lives away or put them in danger, however there are cases of children unintentionally pulling the trigger on themselves, because their parents thought their child had no idea where they hid the gun. In other cases, women that suffered domestic violence are shot and killed by their significant other. The quote “Guns don’t kill people; People kill people” by the National Rifle Association is ironic because even though this association is Anti-gun control, it basically beats their own standing on gun control, if people are killing people then why give them guns right? Our economy might suffer but the positive outcome of saving a thousand lives is greater than that. In conclusion the rate of domestic violence homicides would decrease mostly in women if new gun control laws are passed. Let’s not forget that the Second Amendment was written on our constitution by our founding fathers with the purpose of protecting ourselves and our loved ones, and not kill each other. The United States should be a country where we are all united as one, so the best way we can make a change is by making our voices
