Two key elements seem to be stirring around in Floridian’s head toward the end of 2014 – gun control laws, and how the state is preserving the environment. Overtime, opinions become more informed, and can be influenced greatly upon who we are and our surroundings. What people are not informed of is how these gun control laws and the environment are related to the field of chemistry, but more specifically the career field of forensics. The article titled, “Sunshine State Survey finds Floridians concerned about environment and crime,” discusses the opinions, in percentages, in association with the State’s ratings towards performance in the protection of the environment as well as safety components in our communities. With all the murderous acts being committed in our country and even just within Florida’s state line, it is no wonder many citizens are being cautious of our safety. For instance, I believe it is safe to conclude that if Florida decides to keep the current standard on gun control laws in order to satisfy the majority of 46 percent, murders and crime may rise up or stay static. Likewise, if Florida decides to tighten up on gun control laws, satisfying the minority of 43 percent, the revisions may deter criminals from performing these malicious acts. Though there will always be crimes to solve, if crime rates decrease, the employment rates for forensic analysts and crime scene technicians will also decrease. Respectively, if the crime rate stays static, or if there is more crime being committed within Florida, the more forensic analysts and crime scene technicians will be needed in order to solve, and collect evidence
As an individual who has lived in Florida all her life, and as a student attending college in Florida this topic has a strong impact on me. More significantly, as I pursue a degree in criminology, specifically to become a crime scene technician, this topic has grabbed my absolute interest for not only what may be at stake for my career field, but the safety of Florida as well. …show more content…
A chromatography test can be performed in order to identify and establish the content of blood at the time of a crime. This test can help a chemist, or forensic analysis, determine the level of intoxication of the suspect(s), or victim(s) if need be. Also, another test in forensics which uses chemistry is DNA samples. DNA samples can be taken from the crime scene, the victim(s), and suspect(s) in order to justify that the individual did indeed commit the specific crime. A DNA collection from the scene, may also be compared to previous offenders if a suspect has not been identified
