Living in the 21st century, every student eventually applies to a university or college. By the norm, everyone worries whether the college is too expensive, too far away, or just not the right fit. However, it is also necessary to take into consideration the safety of college campuses. In a society where people hold different opinions and multiple attacks on individuals occur each day, educational institutions want to implement the best means of keeping their students safe. The usage of weapons at college campuses arouses controversy pertaining to the safety and rights of students.

Rather, they see concealed weapon as a threat to the First Amendment and the Fifth Amendment of the Bill of Rights. The First Amendment states that people shall have freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to vote, and the right to assemble and petition. Anti-gun supporters have researched that a healthy learning environment requires academic freedom. The constant doubt from a student whether another student or faculty member has a weapon or not restricts freedom of speech. Even thinking differently from another classmate can cause that classmate to react harshly to each other’s opinions. Therefore, an open exchange of ideas becomes more difficult to advocate. In these cases, guns are usually used to threaten others against their own opinions rather than be used for self-defense. In addition, the usage of concealed weapons violates the Fifth Amendment of the Bill of Congress which states that people can't be deprived of their property rights without due process of law. The school, as a property owner, has the right to ban all weapons whether it has the Right-to-Carry in that state or not.
