From the beginning of the 19th century, all the way to now, art has been full of rebels. Rebels against society, against order, against segregation, against authority, or against the norm. It began as a break from traditional art styles taught in art institutions, namely in France, but throughout the westernized world. Artists wanted to be different and express what they saw in their real lives and visualize how they really felt. A painter in 1850 by the name of Gustave Courbet, wanted to show society what was really going on around them. When he painted "A Burial at Ornans", which depicted a funeral attend by the common people. A massive painting of these peasants was definitely not the norm, and was actually opposed by large parts of society.
