As seen in the novel, Gut: The Inside Story of Our Body’s Most Underrated Organ, Giulia Enders intelligently describes the multiple unknown uses of the gut. Interestingly, not many individuals are aware of the new research collected on such a small topic. Considering most scientist avoid the subject, many cannot understand their own conditions. However, reading the novel allows the audience to educate themselves on the most underrated organ, which is likely to improve daily life. Personally, I have always had an interest in how dietary habits affect us and the overall health of the body. Knowing that most everything we eat enters the gut, I figured a full book about the gut would give me the answers I was searching for. Without a doubt, the book majorly exceeded my expectations. It introduced me to topics I had never thought twice about. The description of the novel mentions multiple bodily functions that are affected by the gut. Reading this novel allowed me to realize the minor mistakes I have made while simultaneously providing me with simple fixes. For example, I never considered changing my position after eating could allow me to avoid heartburn. From now on, I make a conscious effort to have better posture after finishing a meal. Likewise, knowing a simple pressure point can help relieve one of my most painful migraine symptoms has allowed me to feel significantly better on bad days. Though it is not mentioned in my essay, Enders mentions in the novel it is important to squat, not sit, on the toilet. Now, when entering the bathroom I always think about that fact. Most importantly, I now know eating something soon after waking up will help avoid the dreaded morning breath. Thankfully, when the small bits and pieces are all added together, I realize I can tremendously improve my overall well
