After the Gilded Age, Holmes’ impact on America’s culture changed how America was seen. Instead of a country that didn’t have any problems, he showed the corruption and shadiest of American businesses. H. H. Holmes brought to the surface that America was not as perfect as it was seemed to. When Jack the Ripper was terrorizing London in the late 1880s, many Americans were happy that no one like him was in America, but Holmes showed that there indeed was whose crimes were more disturbing than Jack the Ripper.
