Ha is being turned inside out in the three ways she is a lot different from other kids, she has to learn a new language, and she feels dumb. On Ha’s first day of school, she discovers she is the only one with her type of looks. She has straight black hair and olive skin, while the other kids are nothing alike. ‘’I’m the only straight black hair on olive skin.’’, (Lai, Pg. 142). The quotes state how Ha feels different from the rest causing her to feel strange. When you point out how different you are that usually gives people an inside-out feeling. Ha being the only different one is turning her inside out, also it may be harder to connect with people since she is so different. Next Ha still needs to learn English on top of being so different.
