Are there any laws in the United State’s government that are unjust? Back in 1754 BCE, many laws were unjust. Hammurabi was a Babylonian king who wrote 282 laws that were written on a stone pillar more than eight feet tall. It includes categories such as family life, property, and farming. Were Hammurabi’s laws fair? Hammurabi’s code was not fair because it included harsh punishments, burdening of others, and discrimination towards lower social classes.
The first reason Hammurabi’s code is unjust is because it consists of harsh punishments for crimes committed. Law 129 states “If a married lady is caught [in adultery] with another man, they shall bind them and cast them into water.” (Document C) This is an extreme punishment for said crime
