Happiness is a concept that most people tend to misinterpret. Everyone strives to be happy but most people don’t know how to achieve it. We are mislead by the world and the media about what happiness really is and how we are supposed to reach it. There is hope. Psychologists have conducted studies, written countless articles and made documentaries all focusing on how a person finds true happiness, the common mistakes made and what happiness really is in this world.
There have been many studies conducted on happiness that bring to attention the benefits of being a happy person. The article “Why Happiness Matters” writes about the many benefits a person can have from being truly happy. The article states that happier people are healthier, more fertile, have a higher subjective well being and obtain a more positive psychology. The “Psychology Today” article agrees with the “Why Happiness Matters” article because it writes that being a happy person can cause a better immune system, can spark more creativity and lead to counteractive habits. The “If” article provided studies showing that having the basic necessities needed to live provide people with enough to be genuinely happy. The documentary “Happy” supports the article and also talks about how we lose our biological factor, dopamine, when we get older and stresses the fact that it is very important to our levels of happiness. Psychologists started to study people who are already happy instead of the ones lacking the necessities to be happy. They are able to conduct more and more studies this way.
