First, what is happiness? Dictionary.com defines happiness as the quality or state of being delighted, pleased, or glad, as over a particular thing. To explain, this is an important thing to keep in mind when considering how to go about achieving happiness. Along with just being a feeling, happiness is the building blocks that this country developed from. For instance, as shown in Darrin M. McMahon’s “In The Pursuit of Unhappiness” published in the New York Times, it is our nation’s right to pursue happiness to our heart’s content as stated by the Declaration of Independence. Therefore, knowing how to achieve happiness is a major concern of the people. Later in 1843, Thomas Carlyle began to develop thoughts on the idea of happiness. Carlyle’s
