Harriet Tubman has had many great achievements throughout her lifetime. These include her overcoming her dangerous childhood, leading her family and other slaves to freedom, and she helped in the Civil War as a spy, cook, and a nurse. With no doubt Harriet Tubman is one of the most interesting people who have ever lived.
Harriet Tubman’s childhood was filled with fear and danger everyday that lead to permanent marks on her for life. Tubman was born into slavery in Dorchester County, Maryland around the years 1818 and 1825. She lived a life full of hardship and physical violence. The first journey that Harriet made was to help her family crossover to Philadelphia. By using the same underground railroad system that she had escaped in, they managed to make it safely across. Due to a new law stating that slaves who have escaped can be recaptured, Harriet rerouted the railroad system into Canada. Within a span of 12 years, she had saved more than fifty slaves. Clearly, Tubman’s legacy shows how much of an impact she made on slaves.
Throughout Harriet Tubman’s life she had some very extraordinary life experiences. With her wanting to furthermore contribute to the community, she had helped in the Civil War. She started out working as a nurse and a cook but soon turned into a spy. With her ranking, she joined Colonel James in an assault on plantations that rescued many slaves. Over time she got the chance to work with other famous abolitionists such as Frederick Douglass and John Brown. This clearly represents that Harriet Tubman has had a remarkable life.
