In the American South, slavery presented many hardships and difficulties for the slaves. The creation of abolition ended these troubles. Slaves suffered many struggles and challenging conflicts before abolition.

Labor resulted in making a slave’s life very tough. Harriet Tubman grew up working on a plantation, where physical pain was part of her daily life. An example of her pain was getting lashed five times before breakfast, causing scars that would last forever. Frederick Douglass also lived on a plantation as a slave and he suffered pain.
