Someone who is a threat is someone who is likely to inflict harm upon others. Whereas a hero is someone who is admired for their courage, noble qualities, or outstanding achievements. There is a fine line between the two. In the short story entitled "Harrison Bergeron" the author, Kurt Vonnegut describes the future. In 2081, everyone was made equal through handicaps. They were not only equal under the law but also mentally and physically. Nobody was better than anyone else by being stronger, smarter, or better looking. To make this possible, the strong had to wear weights to make them weak, the smart had to wear earpieces that buzzed every ten seconds and scattered their thoughts, and the good looking had to wear hideous masks. Save them from a corrupt, unjust society in which the gifted are treated poorly. His efforts go towards showing the people that they have the power to stand up and be brave, not hurting the people. If he really wanted to, he could have hurt many people since he had the power to but he didn't, he showed them how wonderful life could be if they broke free. Harrison wasn't dangerous, he could have been but he wasn't. He didn't harm anyone therefore he wasn't a threat. A threat is defined as a dangerous person who hurts others and does bad things. Bergeron didn't harm anyone, he did not hurt anyone. Harrison believed his actions would help with a noble cause and they really would. He showed the world that they could stand up against the unfair system that took away the talents of the gifted. He is a hero to the society since he didn't harm anyone and his actions were for a noble cause.

All-in-all, Harrison Bergeron is definitely not a threat to society, he is a hero in the messed up society that he lives in. His actions are heroic because he stood up against the unjust society that was acting unfairly to the people. That society that claimed that everyone was equal and which couldn't have been more fair but was really just lying. It was corrupt and unfair to the gifted.
