Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) is a cop in San Francisco and is known as one of the best. The movie begins with the task of Harry attempting to track down a psychopathic rooftop killer who says he is going to kill a new person everyday. This killer, known as Scorpio, then ups the ante and kidnapped a girl and threatens to bury her underground if he is not given a large sum of money by the government. Harry plays dirty, hence his given nickname, and he abuses the murderer's civil rights putting him back on the streets. Once Scorpio is released he hijacks a school bus and Harry must go after him again. The only way Harry is able to stop this vicious killer is in cold blood.
The setting for Dirty Harry is San Francisco. Kind of a random thought, but it’s very interesting that San Francisco is the setting considering it’s one of the most liberal cities in the USA and it’s probably the best place to contrast liberalism. Perhaps this was done on purpose.

It’s a classic “root for the good guy” kind of movie. Clint Eastwood is a great actor and you want him to prevail, because in our minds he’s almost like the mega definition of a true man. If he disproves his manliness, who are we going to view as a manly figure. Certainly not the bad guy. I appreciated the ups and the downs of Dirty Harry a lot. For instance, just when you think the movie is about to end and Scorpio is going to do his time, we are proven wrong and the tables completely turn. I enjoyed that. What reels you into this story is the absurdity of it. It’s almost unheard of for a maniac to do what he’s doing. At least it doesn’t happen very often. So we as the viewers get so attached the characters, Harry in particular, and stay on the edge of our seats until Scorpio is
