A hero is someone who protects people from harm in any shape or form. An epic hero can be seen to possess supernatural strengths or powers that allow them to achieve victory over their enemies. An epic hero is also someone who carries the responsibility of protecting people and who shows immense bravery in the face of danger. In the poem Beowulf, Beowulf is shown to possess traits of both bravery and responsibility as he defeats his enemies throughout the poem. Beowulf is also shown to be rash and going into battles without worrying about his own life. Beowulf and Harry Potter both possess these traits. Harry Potter is similar to Beowulf because he holds the same acts of responsibility, rash behavior, and bravery.

Beowulf is shown to be brave as he faces demons and dragons in the story. Heroes often are seen as not fearing death as they protect their citizens. Beowulf as he prepares for his fight with Grendel’s mother is shown to be, “indifferent to death” (1442). Beowulf also shows bravery as he battles against the dragon even when he does not have to. Harry Potter is also shows bravery as he walks to his death to protect the ones he cares about. Neither Harry or Beowulf are shown to fear death.
In the epic poem Beowulf, the main hero Beowulf is shown to journey through dangerous battles against supernatural creatures. Beowulf is shown to possess a repetition of traits throughout his battles mirroring that of modern day hero Harry Potter. The responsibility that Beowulf carries to save the city of Herot is the same that Harry carries to protect the muggle and wizarding world. With the stress of both heroes responsibility, it can cause them to act rash, putting them into more danger than what they can survive.
