Harvey Milk
Harvey Milk was was the first San Francisco County Board of Supervisors openly gay elected. He was born on May 22, 1930. Milk wanted to help the gays and lesbian for their rights. When he was 14 he was aware that he was homosexuals but kept it to himself. He also kept his homosexuals away from his family. Once he had graduate he joined the U.S Navy. He had followed his parents footsteps for joining the Navy. After that he was an icon for gay rights in 1970s. Then in June 25, 1978 there was the biggest gay parade.
He ran for San Francisco for County Board of Supervisor 3 times but the 2 times that he had run he had lost, but the third time he won. Milk had spoken out for the gay rights. Also, Milk had became the gay symbol …show more content…
After he ha gotten killed the news went out quickly about Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone death. Milk’s life have been showcased in films, books, and even an opera. He kept quiet about his personal life. Milk knew his was gay since high school. Milk had hopes for gays and lesbians across the country. After he had be done serving the U.S Navy he went back to New York and he was living with his love Joe Campbell. After that he was a teacher and then he moved back to San Francisco. A while later Milk ran for San Francisco County Board of Supervisor. He had the lost the first two try, but manage to win the 3 time. Milk had burn his BankAmericard in front of a crowd of people. Milk mainstreet life was now broken so he moved back to New York and he work at a theater. Then in 1972 he had moved back to San Francisco and lived with his new partner Scott Smith. Even though he had lost he had enough support to be in the city political map. Milk was driving forced behind the gay rights. The city had announced to hire more gay and lesbian police officers. After Milk had been killed, thousands of people went Castro Street to celebrate what would be Harvey milk 49th birthday. In conclusion, Milk Harvey stand up for gays and lesbian rights. He also fought for education, public transportation, child-care, and low-income housing. Also, he had become the San Francisco County Board of Supervisors. Then Milk had been killed
