The Constitutional law and the criminal justice system are very argumentative subjects. So here is a very argumentative question, why do police officers shoot even when the victims are unarmed? Hate crimes are the reason for many of shootings. A hate crime is generally understood to mean a crime against a victim who is chosen specifically because of a person's race, religion, gender, nationality, disability, and in some states sexual orientation. In 1990 congress passed an act known as the statistics act, which required the department of the justice to collect and publish statistics about crimes that seem to be bias-related. In many states hate crime laws do not include sexual orientation as a protected class. People that support hate crime legislation engage that laws are necessary to reinforce society's message that prejudice and hate are not acceptable. Hate crimes committed by police officers not only Walden3 injure the victim and their families but can also have an impact on the community and sometimes the nation as well. Supporters of hate crime legislation also engage that not only crimes but hate crimes cause the victim a lot of physical and psychological harm than different types of other crime so the punishment should be more.
