What would you do if your opinion was not heard even though you were right because you were a woman? : In the Story of “Hattie and The Fox”, it is about a hen who is in her barnyard with the other animals. Suddenly, she spots a fox and tries to tell the other animals; they ignore her not making a big deal out of it. Knowing something is wrong she tells them hoping they would listen. To begin, there were many instances where we could see situations of sexist sitations. For example, Hattie the lead character who is female loses voice when she spoke her thoughts. “Goodness gracious me! I can see a nose in the bushes! Who cares? Said the sheep?” Hattie clearly sees something in the bushes but no one believes her presenting her as a dumb stereotypical woman. Generating a gender bias, from Hattie’s opinion not being respected sends the message that women’s opinion do not matter. It also enforces that women complain about everything. For example, when Hattie tells the other animals that there is a fox and the other animals ignore her, it represents example of gender roles. “I can see a nose and two eyes in the bushes! Good Grief! said the Goose.” Hattie warning the other animals about the fox is her presenting a feminine role portraying the mother of the group. While the other animal the horse, sheep and goose who had no time for any nonsense decided to ignore her problems and not help.
