The public service announcement I chose to analyze was He has his mother’s eyes. It was created by Amnesty International to raise awareness about abuse and is directed towards adults who deal/interact with children. The implicit message is that abuse could be secretly happening to someone you know. It is an ongoing cycle unless someone steps in and helps them out. So you should pay more attention to your surroundings and the people around you. First of all, one of the techniques used was juxtaposing the tagline on the center of the focal point. The juxtaposition of the tagline and focal point, the psychological appeal towards the need for security, and the tagline communicate the importance of abuse awareness. However, this PSA presents stereotypes. It communicates that abuse generally happens to young children and women (wives). It generalizes abuse as internal family matters that are disclosed to the public. But in reality abuse can happen to anyone. Also, this PSA is biased because the adult male/ father perspective is missing. , the implication of this PSA is that abuse could be secretly happening to someone you know. This is important to society because abuse has become more relevant. There are many forms of abuse: verbal, physical, and emotional. Some of these forms are discreet and almost invisible. Thus, It is necessary to help spread awareness in order for communities to pay more attention and realize signs of abuse. More action needs to be taken in order to prevent these issues. Especially, when it occurs between family members. These matters are serious and shouldn't be taken lightly because it becomes a cycle. The abuser takes advantage of all the other family members if no one interferes. This is because the abuser thinks that they are allowed to because no one is preventing/stopping them. All in all, it's concerning because we all have families/relationships with people. Abuse can suddenly happen to anyone. It does not always have warning signs.
