Health cost take into account everything involved in the care of a patient from check in to discharge and beyond. From a payers and provider perspective the cost to treat the patient is just in a day’s work, yet for the patient it is a big deal. The problem that comes into play is that it is the patient’s responsible to pay the co pay even if they can’t afford or purchase the prescribed medication even if it will be the difference in if they can afford food for the week.
