Information technology (IT) in healthcare has made the patient’s data and physician’s order online which can be accessed by multi-disciplinary team at one time. This has led to the improved communication, keeping track of patient history and relates it to the current disease pattern, screening and medical reports and better decision making regarding patient’s health. Researches have shown that IT in healthcare has reduced the time consumption, improved the quality of life, reduced the cost and reduced the medical errors. Hospitals, healthcare clinics, remote services, and government health institutions are widely using the healthcare technology and are adopting new emerging technology.

They have tried to implement the Health Information Technology (HIT) but paper records are hindering in coordinating the care status of patients within the multidisciplinary teams, providing an immeasurable data on the improvement or lacking in the quality of care and medical errors. HIT is an emerging field in the healthcare which includes online physician’s orders, patient’s medical records and electronic records. This system has made a channel of communication between the healthcare teams to find out the immediate treatment and the results of the patients through electronic health records, personal health records, and electronic medical records (EMR). This system has been designed to decrease the workload of healthcare professionals from paperwork to quick electronic system, improve the communication, quality of care, and reduce the errors and the cost of healthcare illnesses. The acceptance of HIT is increasing with an increasing burden of medical errors in healthcare, which cost to an estimation of $17 billion annually (Van Den Bos et al., 2011).
