Health Informatics plays a critical role in the push toward healthcare reform. The ability of health care organizations large and small, to be skillful and innovative in the use of healthcare informatics in acquiring, storing, retrieving and sharing and using of healthcare information to foster better collaboration among a patient's various healthcare providers. Healthcare informatics and its implication are vital to; communicate, reduce health disparities, mitigate error, and support decision making in nursing practice and the healthcare informatics (QSEN Competencies. 2013). According to QSEN, as nurses we must embrace technology and integrate it into our practice to decrease medication errors, maximize the time we spend with patients on direct care and safety and impact cost containment (QSEN Competencies. 2013 and Hughes n. d.).
