Charlie Marlow’s adventure down the Congo River to Africa is essentially the entire plot of the Heart of Darkness. Marlow is telling this story on the boat to several other men of his adventure that took months. Charlie Marlow begins telling his story about traveling down the Congo to Africa as a sailor. After one of the company’s captains was killed by the natives, Marlow was hired onto a European trading company. Thus, Marlow began his trip to Africa. At Marlow’s first stop, he learns about the natives which appear to be slaves but are called criminals. These natives were shackled together and were treated just like slaves.
He also hears of a man by the name of Mr. Kurtz who sounds like a very important person who is a very successful agent and provides the company with loads of ivory. Marlow then hiked

After another couple weeks, Marlow goes to pick up his steamboat which he finds has sunk. Marlow figured out that the people at the central station had destroyed it in the process of trying to retrieve Mr. Kurtz. Marlow also meets a brickmaker who talks very highly of Mr. Kurtz just as everyone else does. While still in the central station, Marlow hears two men speaking about how someone was trying to obtain ivory on Kurtz’s land and that he should be hanged for doing such a thing. This is another supporting detail that shows how many people think Kurtz is a very holy man and that anyone who messes with him shouldn’t be a part of society. After a thick foggy day, Marlow and his team are attacked by archers for intruding their territory. One man gets hit by the arrow and dies but everyone else seems to be
