In the beginning of this season, Walt becomes the target of two of Tuco's cousins wanting to avenge his death. Tuco's cousin find their uncle Hector to understand what happened during the events of Tuco's death. Gus wants Walt and Jesse to finish what they started with him before the cousins go after him, so he holds a meeting to make sure Walt is alive until Gus gets what he wants. Shortly after, Gus finds out Hank killed Tuco, and tells the cousins. They engage in a shootout with Hank who was given a hint he was under attack earlier. Eventually both cousins end up dead and Hank paralyzed.

Later on, Jesse finds out a potential buyer's younger brother wants to kill his friend, and the brother later ends up dead. Jesse is upset and lashes out at the men who killed the boy because he did not think it was right. Walt runs in on the attack and shoots the men to protect Jesse. As a result, him and Walt get into trouble with Gus, since the men Walt killed were Gus's dealers. Gus is trying to hunt down Jesse and allows a woman named Gale to be Walt's assistant. Walt thinks that Gale is a puppet who is going to replace Walt and Jesse once she learns how to cook the meth. Jesse doesn't want to kill her since it is against his morals, but is left with no choice when Walt is about to be shot by Gus's men.
