Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen is not made out of things that are visible. Hebrews 11:1-3

In Hebrews 11, Paul talks about many people in the Bible and how faith inspired them into what they did. He talks about people like Abel, Enoch, Noah, and many more. He tells us how by faith they were all called by God and ended up doing something great. This was one of the apostle Paul's letters to the Hebrews. It is believing that something is there, even though you can not see it. Faith is what gives us the opportunity to see the spiritual realm. Faith is almost like glasses that you put on to give you sight. People without faith are spiritually blind and do not understand the meaning of God. What the second verse means is that because of faith, historical people in the bible receive praise for what they have done. Basically because of their faith and because they have God they are applauded for their accomplishments. Paul uses the example of people like Abel and Enoch because they lived by faith. The Hebrews that Paul is addressing in this letter are in need of examples of how to live. Paul is trying to build up their faith by using examples of people whose stories they are familiar with. These new converts were likely facing persecution and ridicule from the people around them that did not believe in Jesus Christ. The third verse means that what is seen is not made out of what is visible, because we need faith to see invisible things. In other words, without invisible things, there would be no faith. It also takes faith in the power of God’s word to understand how the universe was created. Otherwise, we would have no understanding of how anything came into existence. Faith is hard for a lot of people to understand. it is key in applying this verse to your life. Sometimes we have to believe things, like the word of God, even when we don’t feel or see it. I can apply this verse to my own life by believing in God, even when we don't see or feel him. This also means that I would have to put my whole trust in God. Having this kind of trust in God is the key to a relationship with Him, and becoming close with Him. This verse reminds me that I need to strengthen my faith with daily things like praying and reading the
