Hi everyone,
In the beginning, the audience discovers the relationship between Hedda and Mr. Tesman is distant. Hedda is the one who is unpleased with everything including her house, Mr. Tesman's family, and the economic status. The audience can immediately tell Hedda is not like average women. For example, when Hedda is bored she goes and shoots her gun for fun. (Intruding) Hedda was most likely raised by a male figure which taught her the qualities she presents to the audience. Hedda was mean to Mrs. Elvsted when they were young and Mrs Elvsted is still a little scared of her. (Bully) The audience discovers that Mrs. Elvsted left her husband and her children. Mr.Tesman reveals he is loyal to his family and cares for them though sickness and wealth. (Hardworking) He constantly visits his sick aunt and in act 3 it is reveal she is dying. Mr. Tesman is heart broken and rushes to see her. Act 3 is revealing the characters completely but mostly Hedda. Hedda is manipulating, mean, and a liar. Hedda convince Ejlert to go out and drink when Mrs.Elvsted had hinted he should not. Ejlert goes out, gets terribly drunk and gets in trouble with the police. Mr. Tesman has the manuscript of Ejlert who had dropped on accident when he was drunk. Mr. Tesman plans to return it later on but Hedda burns it. Ejlert is upset he lost and Hedda stays quite. He even wants to kill himself because of his actions. Hedda encourages Eljert's actions and hands him her gun. A person who is sane in this situation would have given him back the manuscript and not encourage a death. In this play, the past history helps to reveal the characters traits because the reader will have an idea of the action taken by characters. The reader is able to analyze each character and sense what each one is capable of. The past history helps the audience understand the actions of the character. The plot is pushed forward with the help of past
