1.Why do you think Marcus was able to stay mentally and emotionally stable during Hell Week

All the pain in Coronado could not have inserted that poison into my mind. I might have passed out, had a heart attack, or been shot before a firing squad. But I never would have quit" (Luttrell 180).

Marcus was able to stay emotionally and physically stable because he just wanted to be the best Navy SEAL that he could be. He also knew that most of Hell week was just drills that he has already done so Marcus knew he could complete them. Marcus also was really strong in the water so he knew he could handle the water drills. Also, the motivation of seeing people drop out of the Navy SEALS just made him stronger because he was handling the tasks. Overall, Marcus's level head was the reason why he became a Navy SEAL.

2.Why were people dropping out of the Navy SEALS so fast during hell week?

“They were nine hours that had changed the lives and perceptions of those who could stand it no more. I doubt the rest of us would ever be quite the same again" (Luttrell 181).

People focus on what hell week is going to be 5 days from rather then focus on getting wet so they over think everything. Physically people who make it to hell week can handle it, but if a person has sense of doubt on how they cannot complete a drill they cannot become a Navy SEAL. In order to become a Navy SEAL a person has to be mentally strong an not crack under pressure. Overall, hell week isn't hell week because it's physically demanding it is the the mental fatigue that takes a toll on the Navy
