“An Evening of Science Fiction Adapted for the Stage” was the play put on by Henderson High School. It was a series of short science-fiction stories adapted for the audience in an entertaining way. The first showing was on November 5, put on by the Drama Club of Henderson. At the beginning of the play, the audience was given the warning that three of the stories had darker themes to them; this warning was correct, and the audience did experience the darker ideas they were warned about. The first story, while not being as dark as the other adaptations, did have some negative tones interwoven into the storyline, but even though the play was overall dark, the acting and script gave some light to the audience and also brought humor. The overall acting of the play was very strong, and the actors seemed very committed to their roles. There were some people with two parts, and since each story was so diverse, it was impressive for them to be able to switch over so quickly and be convincible in their part. The overall ensemble was in unison about what they needed to do, and worked very well together. Each prop had a role in the scene, and they gave the set more significance. The actor’s entrances and exits were well timed and fit with the script. The stage crew did take some time moving props, and sometimes the actors had to help as well, but their efficiency helped to get the play back on track without any major problems. I think that the production interpreted the stories well, while also giving them their own twists. They did a good job of symbolizing the ideas and themes of each story, and the props also helped emphasize them as well.
