Traveling to a new country without knowing anything or anyone is a hard thing to do for anyone. In Saul Bellows book Henderson the Rain King the main character Henderson does just that. He lives a normal life but is always counted out and is never believed in. Henderson is a large middle-aged man who decides to leave everything to travel to Africa with the three million dollars his father left him. While in Africa he learns about how tribes live their life's and what life in general means to them. In this book Henderson goes through many complications and challenges that ultimately changes him and makes him look and live life in a better more upbeat way. Henderson is a World War II veteran and is currently a pig farmer, he always lived in the shadows of his brother in his dads' eyes and never was told or thought he was good enough. He finds a guide named Romilayu, the two of them travel for days until they finally reach the Arnewi tribe. While visiting the tribe he meets and befriends the prince Itelo and learns of their frog infestation in the water supply and decides to do something about it. "Meanwhile my heart was all stirred and I swore to myself every other minute that I would do something, I would make a contribution here. 'I hope I may die,' I said to myself, 'if I don't drive out, exterminate, and crush those frogs.'" (p. 68) Henderson goes through phases where he would rather die than not do something correct. He makes a bomb to kill the frogs but ends up destroying the wall holding the water supply together and drains the entire reserve.
