Henry Louis ‘Lou’ Gehrig was born on June 19, 1903, in Manhattan, New York. His parents Heinrich and Christina Gehrig were both German immigrants. Even though Lou was German, He never got to experience his native country as a child. Lou’s mother Christiana always wanted for Lou be successful in everything he did academic wise and athletic wise. Around the age of seven Lou started playing in his first school sports.
In high school Lou was an all-around athlete. He played football, baseball and soccer. He attended the High School of Commerce in New York. In the years he attended the High School of Commerce, he became a star player in soccer. He led them to three championship games. Lou was also invited to attend the baseball championship game held in Chicago, Illinois.
