Hera: Odysseus' Protector In The Odyssey by Homer, goddess Athene is labeled the protector of Odysseus. She guides him on his journey back to his homeland by making a clear path and reassuring his family on his homecoming. Another goddess that would be fit for this role would be Hera. Through her power, natural characteristics, and her favoritism of the Greeks in the Trojan war, Hera would be a great deity to be Odysseus' protection. Queen Hera was the most powerful goddess of all the Greek deities. She was the sister and eventual wife of Zeus, the king of Mount Olympus, which naturally gave her extreme power. Zeus' power intimidated everyone, so Hera could have gotten away with protecting Odysseus without any problems. Any god or goddess, such as Poseidon who dislikes Odysseus and tried to interfere with his homecoming, would not take the risk of going against the queen of Mount Olympus over a mortal man. In order for Jason to complete his quest of obtaining the Golden Fleece it was important that Medea fell in love with him. Hera took the authority of requesting her daughter Aphrodite to send her son Eros, who could make anyone fall in love, to make Medea fall in love with Jason. As a result of this, Jason got the Golden Fleece. By doing something as simple as asking her daughter a favor, she aided Jason in becoming a hero.
